Half Day Fishing in Marathon, Florida

Reef and Wreck Fishing Without Giving Up Your Whole Day

A half day is the easiest way to fit real Florida Keys fishing into a vacation.

Quick Answer: A half-day fishing trip out of Marathon is a shorter morning or afternoon charter on the reef and wrecks for snapper, grouper, amberjack and shark, and it's a good fit for families, first-timers and anyone with other plans in the Keys.

What a Half Day Gets You

You get a real fishing trip without giving up your whole day.

We fish the reef, the wrecks and other productive water around Marathon. These are hands-on trips, and when the bite is going, things happen quickly.

For a lot of visitors, a half day on the reef is their introduction to fishing the Florida Keys.

What You Can Catch on a Half Day

Half-day trips focus on reef and wreck fish.

  • Snapper: mutton and mangrove snapper are both in play. Yellowtail and mangrove snapper are available year-round, and mutton snapper have their own seasonal window.

  • Grouper: the general Florida Keys calendar lists grouper from May through December.

  • Amberjack: strong fish that hold around wrecks and deeper structure.

  • Shark: a hard fight for anglers who want one.

That's a fishing calendar, not a guarantee. Weather, water and the bite change from week to week.

Who a Half Day Is Right For

A half day works well for:

  • Families with younger kids

  • First-time anglers

  • Vacationers fitting fishing around everything else they're doing in the Keys

Kids are welcome, and life jackets are provided in the sizes needed for our passengers. You don't need experience. The crew handles the equipment and shows you what to do when a fish is on.

Half Day or Full Day?

Choose a half day when fishing is one part of your trip.

Choose a full day when fishing is the reason you came. More time gives Captain Johnny more room to change areas, try different kinds of fishing and make longer runs. If you want to get into blue water, look at our Full Day and Deep Sea trips.

Not sure which fits your group? Call and ask. We'll help you choose.
